Star Wars - The Black Series: Sandtrooper

Dewback riding, droid hunting, weak minded troops that we know as sandtroopers have come to The Black Series 6 inch line!  And they are glorious!

Since I haven't touched on the simple yet effective packaging of the 6 inch Black Series, I will.  Monochromatic in base design highlighted by a familiar pattern in orange keeps it simple but artistic.  The four figures are packed one of each to a case and the case is about the same size as the 3 3/4 inch case.  It's actually a little surprising to see all that awesome in such a small box.

The part of The Black Series that I look forward to as subsequent waves are released is the massive amount of gear Hasbro is willing to pack in.  The Sandtrooper comes with three guns, a backpack, and an ammo clip extension for the backpack that could have easily been omitted and no one would have been upset.  That little extra is making me a huge fan.  I haven't been this excited about Star Wars since the Return of the Jedi commercials I viewed on a small black and white cathode ray tube television!  The plastic insert is big enough to allow for larger characters like Chewbacca and Darth Vader to fit in the packaging.  Hopefully we get them soon!

The articulation is great.  The joint in the upper thigh is tight on the Sandtroopers I played with.  Be careful not to break off the leg.   I would have like a swivel at the waist and some kind of swivel in the lower leg.  It would allow for a lot more action poses.  The Sandtrooper comes with a E-11 blaster rifle, a DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle, and a T-21 light repeating blaster.  According to the info I found, the pauldron colors represent their ranks: black - enlisted ranks, white - Sergeant, orange - squad leader.  Looks like I will need a bit more black paint!

I find myself being a bit short when it comes to this line.  Buy them.  They rock.

The neck post doesn't allow for a Luke head swap, but this is what Stormtrooper Luke will look like when we get him.

  1. Cool, nice review. Love how you do head swap examples. Picked up Luke and Maul, but not sure if I'm gonna keep them. Figures are too pricey for me and worried about obsessing about collecting them all.

  2. This figure really should be shipped in larger quantities (though I know they're all packed 1 per case), as this is clearly the star of the line. Add to that, I had an impossible time finding a single trooper on shelves due to army builders with bigger budgets than mine.

I hope supply increases come Wave 3, when the inevitably impossible to find Storm Trooper figure hits. I'd like to at least snag two, and going by my difficulty with finding the Sand Trooper... I don't have the faith required to believe I will find so much as one on shelves.

    1. I have been seeing Target get 2 or more cases per store this week. TRU has been getting 1 here and there and I have yet to see a Wal-Mart sighting.

    2. Excellent! I was really down on this line when it was announced, but I have to say... I don't think I will ever look at the 3 3/4" line again. I really hope this series has a long, healthy lifespan.
