Review: Darth Malgus - Star Wars: The Vintage Collection

Darth Malgus.  Not since Darth Vader have I felt such awe for the combination of cybernetics and the Dark Side.  Sure, we had Darth Maul, and yes he is darn cool.  But he was punked out badly in TPM only to be "resurrected" in the poorly done The Clone Wars.  (Yes, an opinion I know, but I try and try to like it but I can't!)  Count Dooku, Darth Tyrannus...  Boo, what a waste of a Sith.  Now Malgus...  introduced to us in 3 different trailers for the MMO: The Old Republic.  In those few minutes, we watch his progression backwards... (The trailers told the story in a backwards order.  Confusing?  Maybe.  Awesome?  Why, yes.  Yes it is.)

View Malgus and some other fantastic characters in proper order here:

Here is the Wookieepedia wiki on him: Darth Malgus

He has been immortalized in plastic from Hasbro in The Vintage Collection.  Thank you Hasbro!  We will getting a few more characters from the game trailers.  And I hope they flush out even more.  I need a Cowboy Smuggler badly!

The figure itself is well done.  Articulation suffers from the standard TVC T-crotch legs.  Not allowing for super dynamic poses.  His chest is limited as well.  He only has a waist joint, but it allows for decent range of movement.

The sculpt is great.  His hands hold his lightsaber well.  He has fantastically sculped buttons and armor bits all over his body.  He really looks like a pre-cursor to Vader.  There are a lot of similarities in the design.

The paint apps are clean and proper.  The armor has a look of wear.  Monochromatic with little flashes of red.  His cloak is much more black than the pictures reveal.

His accessories are a lightsaber hilt, a lit lightsaber, and a second cloak.  Brilliant.  The cloak is a little tricky and takes a bit of work to get to look right, but it is still great.

He lived up to the hype for me.  How do you feel about him?
