Guy Pearce to Join Iron Man 3

With the Avengers release so close you can smell the fear, news of other Marvel releases continues to flow. Today we learn more casting news regarding Iron Man 3, . While we're still not sure who will play the villain, another marquee actor has joined the cast.  Click on the jump to learn more!

While we're still not sure who will play the main villian in 2013's Iron Man 3, the exceptional cast continues to grow with the addition of Guy Pearce (Memento).  According to our friends at, Pearce will play geneticist Aldrich Killian.  For those of you uneducated in this character, Killian creates the Extremis technology, which allowed nanotechnology to bind to the skin of soldiers, thus creating a human army of Iron Men.  After his funding is pulled by the government, Killian decides to test the technology on himself.

This sort of news helps to paint a better picture of which universe Marvel will tap for the plot, it is still unclear whether the bad guy will be the oft-rumored Mandarin.  As you might know, the early script of the original Iron Man featured two bad guys including Mandarin, but was later shelved for the single antagonist Obadia Stane, played by Jeff Bridges (Tron: Legacy).

If past practice is any indication, Marvel and director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) have already selected their bad guy, but are waiting until principle photography kicks off next month to announce the name. In addition, ScreenRant believes that casting names for other characters, such as Killian's colleague Maya Hansen, might also surface soon.

Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle will all return to their respective roles, and Iron Man 3 is scheduled for a May 3, 2013 release.
